Sequin Storage

What do you do when you have way too many sequins, possibly have too many duplicates and you can’t find what you’re looking for? Well don’t do what I did and forget about it – get some storage for them!

In the last 12 months, I’ve been fascinated by shaker cards and pockets letters, shaker cards possibly more, but the array of colours, the variety of sizes and combinations of mixes brings out a great interaction and specialty to a card and project and like me, I had never considered a new element papercrafting. With a few a packets bought over the first 4 months and then the increased escalation of buying more over the last 3 months, I decided to invest in sequin storage – but had no idea where to start.

I looked to YouTube first, searched through my favourite crafters, cardmakers, scrapbookers and jewellers and they had invested in various storage solutions – mainly the Darice Storage Container Tray below, but for myself having 72 boxes was a little excessive – I do know that they have different configurations, sizes and layouts, but with a medium collection like mine, I didn’t feel like it was for me and I had to consider a few options:

  1. Money / Budget
  2. Delivery to the UK within the UK
  3. Being able to look at the product, test this out without the experience of having to buy online, then return the product and obtaining a refund etc.
  4. Sizes of containers, availability of additional containers and how much the container will hold.

I had about 15 – 20 packets of sequins, some duplicates and some similar colours, different sizes and mixes and I had no idea how to organise them.

I tried first of all – the Darice Travel 12 Pot Bead Case below; 12 individual pots in a mini travel container case with handle – great for portable carrying, on the go crafting, if you attend crops and classes and where you can carry a small selection of your favourite mixes instead of carrying the whole shebang with you. Available from Hobbycraft for £3.80

I then realised I had more than 12 packets of sequins and invested in more colours and options, products for future occasions involving sequins (obviously) and the need to create way too many shaker cards and run a shaker shop. I would keep the Darice Travel Case for travelling with (if I scrapbook on the go), but then what’s my second option for a bigger collection? Well that’s where niche Craft Markets come into play.

I spotted this – the Berties Bows Bead Storage Box, with 24 screw top pots all placed in a large clear box. Pictures are below – with the sequins it just looks so pretty and the colours are varied with different sizes and mixes. I bought this storage box for £10.90 from Sew ‘n’ Sew in Bath Guildhall Market in Bath. (You may need to google search for it!)

On the same day I also put a smaller storage box with 24 flip-top boxes, to test out the various containers too, this was also bought at Sew ‘n’ Sew for £5.55.

Other solutions while researching are:

Darice 24 Box Bead Storage Organiser available via Amazon UK for £6.48

Lunar Box 52 individual Boxes Storage Case (with tweezers and scoop) via Amazon UK for £9.99

Kurtzy 30 All Purpose Pots Storage Box via Amazon UK for £6.99

For now, I’ll stick to the two boxes I have and see if I move into the smaller box from Berties Bows – I’m always testing and looking for new storage solutions, part of me is thinking I will be buying more sequins, I’ll now know where I can put the additional!

Stay organised everyone!
